An estimated 2,400 students from eight area high schools filled the bleachers Friday afternoon at the Genesis Center’s Richard Gordon Hatcher Arena to thunderously show their support for the message of love at the Peace Pep Rally.
McGee talked to students about his experiences in the hospital, treating patients with gunshot wounds and stab wounds. He talked about the pitfalls of drug abuse and violence, and he talked about the issues of HIV infections.
About 40 students had the opportunity to visit a working emergency room Monday when Project Outreach and Prevention Against Teen Violence, or POP, spent the day at Methodist Hospital in Gary.
POP hosted region schools in the Indiana University Northwest gymnasium to rally around making good choices and challenged students to “help stop the violence.”
